Peyronies disease stages

Peyronies disease is a disorder found in men of ages 45 to 60. it is characterized by lumps or plaque formation in the shaft of the penis which causes penile curvature during erection. This is accompanied by pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse. This can also result in low self esteem in a man ultimately resulting in impotency. It is quite an uncommon disease as it only affects about 3 percent men. Although the causes of peyronies disease are still under speculation, treatments have been found in order to help the patients.

The stages

Peyronies disease stages are well marked and the symptoms well recognized. The symptoms of peyronies disease are, a lump along the shaft of the penis, curvature of penis during erection, painful erection, inability to sustain an erection, inability to achieve penetration during intercourse. Sometimes peyronies disease is cured by itself and thus doctors advice a patient to observe for a year or two. For severe cases, there is treatment available.

In the early stages of the disease, an area of firmness or a lump can be noticed on the topside of the penis. This lump or plaque increases with the passage of time and usually is accompanied with pain. After this, the penis starts to bend towards the lump during erection. In later stages, the penis deformities increases and sexual intercourse becomes painful and impossible. The pain might subside in six months when the inflammation of the lump subsides. The person might suffer from performance anxiety about sexual intercourse because of their deformity.

Diagnosis

Peyronies disease is diagnosed through ultrasound or by taking pictures. In extreme cases a biopsy is also advised. After diagnosis, the patient is either told to wait for it to heal or is given treatment.

There are different forms of treatment. There are two kinds of surgery. One is where the lump tissue is removed and different skin tissue is placed or an artificial tissue is used. The other one, Nesbit procedure, involves the removal of skin from the opposite side of the scar tissue. Surgery is only advised in the case of acute cases. Mishaps during surgery can cause infertility and impotency.

Enzyme Therapy

The other method of treatment is enzyme therapy. Vitamin E, verapamil, potassium aminobenzoate [Potaba], colchicine, or injected steroids are used to cure peyronies disease. It is a prolonged process and totally effective.

Effective treatment

The most effective treatment for peyronies disease is the use of penis extender or penis traction device. This is a correctional device used to elongate the penis size. This device can also be used to cure penile curvature. It takes merely a few weeks to do so and quite effectively straightens out the problem. Penis extenders are the most recommended way of treatment.
