Treating Peyronies Disease
Peyronies disease is a disorder of the male penis which involves painful curvature of the penis during erection, due to lumps or plaques formed on the shaft of the penis. The cause of this disorder is yet under speculation, though the lump can be formed due to unattended injury or strain on the erectile tissue.
Peyronies disorder can lead to impotency due to the performance anxiety that develops in the person. It can also lead to development of low self esteem in the person.
Treating peyronies disease is possible and various procedures have been invented in order to help the patients. However peyronies disease can heal by itself. The pain slowly disappears when the inflammation starts to subside.
Diagnosis of peyronies disease is based on the following symptoms,
- Erectile dysfunctions
- Painful erections
- Penile curvature
- Narrowing or shortening of penis
- Inability to perform sexual intercourse
After diagnosis, a number of treatments are advised.
- Surgery: surgery is advised to only people who suffer from acute cases of peyronies disease. It is an extremely risky procedure and thus not normally recommended. There are two kinds of surgery.
- One involves removal of the plaque and placement of a patch of skin or artificial material. The other involves removal of tissue from the side of the penis opposite the plaque. This cancels the bending effect. The later process, the Nesbit procedure, may cause shortening of the erect penis.
- Enzyme therapy: vitamin E and other enzymes such as verapamil, collagenase, steroids are given to the patient to reduce the plaque. The newest enzyme medication invented is Neprinol. Although these medications can be effective, it requires prolonged treatment.
- Radiation therapy: radiation therapy involves application of high energy rays at the plaque. Although this resolves the pain, it is not very effective and has side effects.
- Penile prosthesis: this is the implantation of a hollow or inflatable device into the penis. This helps in acquiring complete rigidity and erection.
- Penis extenders: penis extenders or penis traction device is a correctional device used to elongate the size of the penis. This device is also used to cure the curvature of penis and thus it is effective in curing peyronies disease. Treating peyronies disease with penis extenders has proved effective and moreover it takes only a few weeks to work. This way of treatment is highly recommended and risk free.
here can be other ways of treating peyronies disease as new treatments are cropping up everyday. Peyronies disease is nothing to be worried about as it is curable. It is not a form of cancer and isn’t infectious. It is just a disorder that an be put right by the effective treatments.
